Hundreds of people braved the rain to take part in a memorial ride for a man killed by an admitted drunk driver.

"They lost a fellow cyclist. They lost someone who works with them at the bike shop,” Kyle Robinson told Local 5 reporter Chris Oswalt. “ They lost some senselss. It didn't need to happen."

More than 50 cyclists gathered at Kyle’s Bike Shop in Ankeny to #RideForeWade.

"He treats everyone like family. He was literally like a brother to me,” Wade’s good friend Michael Doyon said.

Friends say the accident that took their friend was preventable. The driver who hit him was admittedly drunk and was driving while barred.

"In my opinion, this person should have never been on the road,” Doyon said. “Our justice system failed. Our judges and our county attorneys need to re-evaluate what is going to happen to this gentleman.

Several rides took place around the metro. A soldier stationed in Afghanistan also organized a ride there.

The suspect, Johnathan Leyva, 31, is in the Polk County Jail facing several charges including homicide by OWI.

If you would like to show your support for Wade, take a picture of you riding and post it to Facebook or Twitter using #RideForWade.
