Fairfield Iowa is the latest Iowa town to be added to theLeague of American Bicyclist's Bicycle Friendly Community Program.

Eighteen communities across the Nation were added to the honorable mention listthis year and Fairfield, population 9,476, was one of them. KUDOS to Fairfield!

Iowa now has 8 Bicycle Friendly Communities listed (see link below).

The Bicycle Friendly Community? (BFC?) program provides a roadmap to improve conditions for bicycling and the guidance to make your distinct vision for a better, bikeable community a reality.

A community recognized by the League as Bicycle Friendly? welcomes bicyclists by providing safe accommodation for cycling and encouraging people to bike for transportation and recreation. Encouraging bicycling is a simple way towards improving public health. With more people bicycling, communities experience reduced traffic demands, improved air quality and greater physical fitness.
