West Des Moines' newest City Council member is pro-cycling

Congratulations to Rick Messerschmidt of West Des Moines who is the newest member of the West Des Moines City Council.

Rick was currently chairman of the West Des Moines Parks and Recreation Advisory Board and was vice chair of the committee that reviewed and updated the city's comprehensive plan and serviced on the committee that updated the current parks and trails plan for the West Des Moines Parks & Recreation.

He narrowly defeated incumbent Ted Ohmart by 34 votes to claim an at-large seat on the West Des Moines City Council on Nov 5th 2013.

Rick was selected as Interim Mayor for the City of West Des Moines from February of 2007 – April 2007 and has been active in the West Des Moines Chamber of Commerce for 30 years and served on various committees for both the West Des Moines School District and the City of West Des Moines as well as many more committees over the years.
