A 23-year-old man was arrested Friday afternoon and charged with
stealing several rental bicycles parked in downtown Des Moines, police
said.
Tommy Lee Goines of Saylor township was arrested and charged with two
counts of second-degree theft and one count of false use of credit
cards or ATM cards on Friday afternoon, jail logs show.
Police caught Goines riding a rental bike Friday that had been
reported stolen from the Des Moines Bicycle Collective, police said.
Carl Voss, the owner of the Des Moines Bicycle Collective, told
police on Wednesday that someone rented six bicycles between Monday and
Wednesday and never returned them. Two were located abandoned that
afternoon at SQ Liquor Store on Hubbell Avenue. The remaining four bikes
were valued together at $4,800, a police report stated.
