The Siouxland Trails Foundation or STF was formed as an non-profit organization with Articles of Incorporation & By-Laws in November of 2003. The purpose & objectives of the foundation are to improve the recreation trail system & bike route system in the greater Siouxland area.
This area is made up of Sioux City, Iowa, South Sioux City, Nebraska & North Sioux City, South Dakota. The goal of STF is to raise money & work in partnership with the 3 area's governments to obtain these objectives.
One of the ways STF is going to raise money is by hosting an annual bike ride called the Tri-State Trails Tour.
So far the foundation has received about $4,000 in monetary donations from various companies & banks. They have the promise of a $10,000 match from a major construction company in Sioux City once they reach the first 10 grand.
The Tri-State Trails Tour bike ride has monetary sponsorships of about $1,450 not including the dollar amount added for all the In-Kind sponsors. That total will reach somewhere around $16,000 when its all said and done, maybe more.
This will be the first year for the Tri-State Trails Tour bike ride. It will be on May 15th, 2004.
Because of all the generous sponsors for the bike ride STF expects to clear $5,000 in money raised.
When the time comes STF will then meet with the Parks & Rec. officials from all 3 city's, ask them what bike route & trail projects are being planned and then decide how best to distribute the money for the various projects.
This will all be up to STF's elected board.
The Siouxland Trails Foundation Advisory Team is made up of people from all walks of life. A few are business leaders/owners in the Siouxland area. There is also a CFO, and accountant, a commercial bank officer, an attorney, a minister a couple of draftsmen, an IT Technician, and even a gas company employee, plus various members of the city govt's.
The board was elected from those individuals & there are also smaller sub-committee's, one is the Financial Sub-Committee, and one is the Event Sub-Committee.
STF is working in partnership with the 3 city governments, Sioux City, Ia, South Sioux City, Ne., North Sioux City, SD, & one state parks dept. South Dakota.
To the knowledge of STF never before has a partnership quite like this taken place. There have been volunteer citizen groups working with city officials, but not on a scale such as this. It is typically only one city govt., not 3 at the same time.
