During high school Dan was active in football and track and field. He walked on the Iowa State track team, and earned four varsity letters in long jump. Dan was not just an ISU fan he was a true Cyclone. Dan earned his bachelor’s degree from Iowa State University in business administration in 1979. He earned his MBA from Drake University in 1981.

As a team, the pair shoved off for a RAGBRAI honeymoon symbolic of the many adventures they enjoyed together the next 16 years. Dan enjoyed entertaining family and friends at Sun Valley Lake on the boat, Cy’s Matters II, and around his infamous campfire telling an endless supply of jokes.

He was extremely proud of his daughters, attending countless dance recitals and spending many hours taping dress rehearsals. He also enjoyed watching Drew and Jay play, and now coach, football and baseball. Dan lived life to the fullest and will be missed by all who truly knew him.

BIKEIOWA NOTE

Every time we ran across Kim and Dan, we had a blast with them! Dan approached me to build him a stereo trailer several years back.. They used the heck out of that tune box on wheels. Dan was a savior to us many a time when he'd offer up ice-cold Miller Lite as we were rolling into town, or at a random intersection. Or the time he got carted off to the hospital after getting kicked in the jaw less than 2 minutes after he joined our hacky sack circle. Pure randomness. Dan was a great friend and he will be missed. Keep pedalin' up there in the sky Mr. Butler...
