Des Moines DART Offer Free Rides to Cyclists during Bike to Work Week The Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority will be showing off the bike racks on its buses this month in recognition of Bike Month with displays, events, and free rides for cyclists during Bike to Work Week. Bike racks were installed on DART’s fleet of buses in 2005 and have been used by thousands of DART customers since then, including more 34,000 uses in the past 12 months. “Our customers love the bike racks, and we want everyone in Greater Des Moines who owns a bike to discover them,” said Angela Connolly, Polk County Supervisor and DART Commission Chair. “Using a bike in conjunction with the bus system makes it much easier to get around the metro without relying on a car.” During Bike to Work Week (May 16-20), riding DART will be free to all cyclists with a working bicycle. They will also need a coupon, available at the bike shops listed below, as well as at other Bike Month events. For cyclists who want to practice using the bike racks, DART will have full-sized, functioning bike rack displays at area bike shops throughout Bike Month.
