If you you have not signed up for the bi-weekly Ride Reminder, here is what the latest one looks like. Ride Reminders are sent approximately every 2 weeks to a month depending on content and how much I am on the bike :) Sign-up to the top left of the site.

Sponsorship Blitz

A sponsorship blitz has been started by some BIKEIOWA groupies and is going on right now. From April 1st to May 31st BIKEIOWA.com is raising some extra funds for site & design expenses and marketing materials. You may not see it, but BIKEIOWA gives away approx. $2500 of reflective decals, BIKEIOWA tags and misc schwag each year. Flowers are sent to the families of those killed on their bicycle, an intern was hired in January to help with some data conversions for the new site. We're not house-poor, but expenses do add up and we'd like to keep doing what we're doing and even do more!

There are 3 ways to get involved
  • Bike Raffle - A New Belgium Fat Tire Cruiser will be raffled off on May 8th at el Bait Shop in Des Moines - you need not be present to win and all proceeds go to BIKEIOWA.com. ($5 per chance or $20 for 5 chances) Thanks to el Bait Shop and New Belgium for donating the bike.
  • Purchase an "I Love BIKEIOWA" T-shirt by our friends at T-shirt Graphix. $20. Save on shipping and pick them up in Des Moines.
  • Make a donation - all denominations gladly accepted!

All can be purchased online from the comfort of your lazy-boy. THANKS to those who have participated already!

Blown Away by the Fan Page

Along with the Sponsorship Blitz, the BIKEIOWA Facebook Group was switched over to the newer "Fan Page". Within 60 hours of the launch, there were 1,000 Fans! As of this evening, less than 6 full days after launch, there are 1,463 Fans of BIKEIOWA.com. That's awesome! I'm blown away by the sheer power of social networking! Look for frequent updates here when the Sponsorship Blitz is over. Check it out here.

Trail Updates

Cracks Be Gone! Two great Features got posted this week.
  1. 5.5 miles of the Raccoon River Trail between Panora and Yale gets resurfaced this week
  2. The Neal Smith Trail 15.5 mile resurfacing project starts next week and is expected to be completed by the end of August 2010.
Watch the site for progress updates. If you have photos send 'em in. Also, most of the trails in Des Moines are open again.

Ride, Race, and Destination Exposure

Want to gain extra exposure for your event? Enter them on the BIKEIOWA.com calendar. Over 700 events were posted to the calendar last year and events get some great exposure when entered soon enough. It's nothing to have 15-20 events on any given Saturday during riding season, so my advice - Add your events as early as possible. You can always go back and edit the event later when more information becomes available. . btw BIKEIOWA.com is always looking for Feature content... Bring it!

Ride of Silence

Wed May 19th is the date for the annual Ride of Silence. Mark your calendars to attend or plan your own ride. The list of Iowa Ride of Silence Rides grows each week.
Join cyclists nationwide in a silent slow-paced ride in honor of those who have been injured or killed while cycling on America's public roadways.
