Brighton, IA By David Hotle Grants from the state and federal trails committees will need to be secured before a project to connect Lake Darling and Brighton can begin. To that end, Washington County Recreational Trails Committee co-chair Lyle Moen is asking for letters of support from community members. Moen said today he had already received six letters of support from various community members. The deadline for a grant application for the Iowa Federal Recreational Trails Funding Grant, which could provide up to $225,000 for the program, Moen said, was Oct. 1. He said Resource, Conservation and Development of Burlington is preparing the grant application. He said a grant application has already been submitted to the Iowa State Recreational Trails Committee, which can give up to $975,000 for the project. He said the Washington County Riverboat Foundation has already approved a $100,000 grant that will allow initial design work to be done.
