USA Cycling announces 2008 U.S. Olympic Team
Colorado Springs, Colo. (July 1, 2008)—USA Cycling announced today 21 of its 24 nominees to the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team, including all 16 men’s athletes across the disciplines of road cycling, track cycling, mountain biking and bicycle motocross (BMX). Additionally, USA Cycling formally announced five automatic women’s nominees across the four Olympic disciplines of cycling. While much of the recent Olympic chatter has focused on West Des Moines gymnast Shawn Johnson; eastern Iowans have their own Olympic hopeful to cheer for come this August. Coralville resident Jason McCartney will be representing the U.S. as one of the five members of the road cycling team. McCartney is an established pro rider, with major stage wins at Vuelta a Espana, Tour De Georgia, and a third place over all finish at the 2007 Tour of California. The rest of the members of the U.S. road team will be 2007 third place Tour De France finisher Levi Leipheimer Christian Vande Velde of Boulder, Colo. David Zabriskie of Salt Lake City, Utah and five time Olympian George Hincapie of Greenville, S.C. This will be McCartney's second trip to the Olympics.
JASON BIO
This group of American cyclist have all been teamed up with each other at some point in their careers making this team very medal capable. Jason is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet, and the Krewe as well of the rest of the Iowa cycling community will be pulling for him come August.
