On Saturday, November 10, the Trestle to Trestle Trail will open to the public. This 3.75 mile 10 ft. wide asphalt trail connects the Inter Urban Trestle Bridge (south of the Euclid Bridge) to the Trestle Bridge (north of I-80/35) connecting to the Johnston trail system. VIEW MAP & BIKEIOWA FEATURE Trailheads are located at Oliver Plaza off Euclid Avenue (on the west side of the Des Moines River) and on NW Lower Beaver Drive (just east of NW Beaver Drive). A formal trail grand opening will take place in the spring of 2008 when a conservation design landscaping project can be incorporated into the ceremony. Native trees, shrubs, and grasses will complement three to four rain garden areas that will capture water run off and filter it before it becomes groundwater. An educational kiosk will also be constructed as a way to teach the public about native plants, rain gardens, water quality, and more. No individual with a disability will be excluded from participation in programs and activities conducted by Polk County Conservation. To request an accommodation to participate in this program, contact Polk County Conservation. Kami Rankin Community Outreach Supervisor Polk County Conservation (515) 323-5363
