The Union Bridge Trail in Correctionville has been open for a month now, and city officials say it is already getting a lot of use. Mike Zwier says, "This new trail provides a bike and walking route from the city of Correctionville to the Little Sioux Park." The trail is open only to non-motorized traffic, but Wednesday some local senior citizens got to break that rule. They got to go for about a three mile round trip taking the trail from town to the park and back in the comfort of some golf carts that were donated for the day. Everyone seemed to have a great time. Mary Slominski, Kingsley, IA says "I think it is a beautiful trail." Mike Zwier says, "Did you enjoy the ride?" Lucille Todd, Correctionville, IA says "Yeah, I did!" Jerry Hyler, Correctionville City Council, says "Even though it's cold they didn't seem a bit cold and they were having a blast." About fifty people showed up for the rides which took about 30 minutes to complete. City Councilman Randy Kirchner came up with the idea and says he hopes it could become an annual event. Randy Kirchner, Correctionville City Council, says "I just said it would be nice if we could get the senior citizens out there on golf carts because chances are they may never get to see it otherwise. It just sparked some things and here we are." Kirchner said even though it may be chilly this time of year, it is really the most scenic time with the leaves changing colors. After the golf carts got back into town, there were plates of cookies and pots of coffee at the City Hall to warm everyone back up.
