That's right! The Stampede will go on regardless of whether it's raining, snowing, whatever. This is mountain bike racing folks and part of mountain bike racing is toughing out the weather sometimes! The 2007 edition of the IMBCS presented by Kia of Des Moines starts this weekend. The first race of the season, the 3rd Annual Sylvan Island Stampede is slated for Sunday, April 15th. For those not familiar with the Sylvan Island Stampede, race director Jim Ghys does an excellent job in putting this event together creating a very festive atmosphere. Last years race have nearly 150 competitors and there were probably just as many spectators at the spectator friendly course. Sylvan Island is a technical XC mountain biking course on an island on the Mississippi River. The island was home to a steel mill in years past, there are many remnants still lingering around. The trails are a mix of dirt, gravel, wood chip & concrete. Check out reviews of the Island at MTBR.com. Racing starts at 9:30am Registration is day of race: Starts 7:30am Ends 1/2hr before each race begins. Entry Fee: $25 (includes $2 USAC Ins.) & (Free event T-shirt & Refreshments) Riders must have a valid USACycling License. If you do not have a USACycling license. A one day license can be purchased at registration for $5.00. Pre Ride - 7:30am - 9:00am Course lap: 3.0mi. technical singletrack & doubletrack Novice - 9:30am, 3 Laps, 9mi. Kids 13 & Under - 11:30am Short Lap Sport/Women - 12:15, 5 Laps, 15mi. Expert/Masters - 2:15pm, 9 Laps, 27mi. USA Cycling Officials & electronic chip timing will be used for scoring Top 3 Novice racers will get a Trophy Cash payout will be disbursed to overall winners in: Expert, Sport & Women All participants will get free products from our gracious sponsors. Participants in the kid's race will receive a prize and be entered in a drawing to win a mountain bike. Rules: All USACycling rules apply, HELMETS are required for all racers. Riders must have a valid USACycling License, licenses can be renewed at registration.
