Gazette's Ruedy to testify at cancer hearing

Published: 07/21/2006 6:19 PM By: The Gazette - The Gazette IOWA CITY, IA - Gazette columnist Shirley Ruedy has been invited to testify next Friday at the University of Iowa cancer research funding hearing that will feature Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong. The hearing 8:30 a.m. hearing is scheduled at the UI Medical Education and Research Facility. Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, ranking member of the Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Appropriations Subcommittee, will chair the event. Ruedy, a cancer survivor, writes a column, Cancer Update, for The Gazette. The column has received several national awards and Ruedy has received several community awards for her work on cancer survival. She also is a member of the Iowa Women's Hall of Fame and a recipient of the American Cancer Society Courage Award.
