An ultra endurance race is scheduled to take place on the rural roads of Northern Iowa in the Spring of 2006. Dubbed "Trans Iowa V.2", by the events organizers, the race is set to pit a field of 70 competitors against the challenge of crossing the state on gravel roads.
The event is scheduled to start in Hawarden, April 29th, and finish in Decorah, the following day. Many towns along the route will provided racers with food and access to supplies.
The course, over 330 miles long, will require the riders to finish within a 30 hour time limit. Only one stop, in Algona, will be scheduled by race organizers.
Riders will be self-supported, and follow route instructions given to them on "cue sheets" just prior to the start of the event. New for 2006, all racers will receive a stuff-sack the night before the start to fill will any and all supplies they might need. This stuff-sack will be transported to Algona for pick up. It will also act as the only form of outside support.
Award ceremonies for the epic event will be held immediately following the event at T-Bock's Sports Bar in Decorah. Trans-Iowa V2 will be held in conjunction with the ceremonies for the Decorah Time Trials, an off road time trial event.
