The Quad-Cities will showcase bicycling opportunities on its trails during Quad-Cities Bicycle Week on June 10-18. The first-time event ties together several bicycling events, lets bicyclists test their skills at a bicycle safety rodeo and brings the author of a bicycling book to town. Joe Taylor, president and chief executive officer of the Quad-Cities Convention and Visitors Bureau, said the event focuses attention on the community’s resources for bicyclists while putting the spotlight on popular bicycling events held during the spring. They are Tour of the Mississippi River Valley, or TOMRV, on June 10-11, the Grand Illinois Trail and Parks Bicycle Tour, or GITAP, on June 14-15, Ride the River on June 18 and rides held by the Quad-City Bicycle Club on June 17. Other aspects of the bicycle celebration include an appearance June 15 by Bob Morgan, the author of “Biking in Iowa.” A free bicycle safety rodeo will be held June 17 in Davenport. A free bicycle kit will be available after April 1 at Bike & Hike, Healthy Habits, Jerry & Sparky’s, On Two Wheels, River Action and the Quad-Cities Convention and Visitors offices. On April 3, the Quad-Cities Convention and Visitors Bureau will begin its third season of renting bicycles at its visitors’ centers at 102 S. Harrison St., Davenport, and 2021 River Drive, Moline.
