For a small Iowa town of about 1,600 residents, Slater’s downtown has enjoyed some exuberant business growth in recent years.
The main street district has several well-established businesses such as the Nite Hawk Bar & Grill and the Town & Country Market grocery store.
The Slater Station, the Public House 421 coffeeshop, and Local Spokes, which sells e-bikes, have helped the community’s downtown spring to life.
The High Trestle Trail, which recently was extended to Perry, also slices through the edge of the business district.
The addition of another business, such as a farm-to-table restaurant, could be a game-changer for the town, according to local officials. Many locals are embracing the momentum, hopeful the good times will continue to roll on.
