The Sac County Conservation Board wants to remind trail users that some of the Sauk Rail Trail will be closed after the Fourth of July weekend.
The portion of the trail that will be closed sits above the Blackhawk Marsh Dike, which has seen damage, causing unsafe riding conditions over the years.
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) proposed replacing the concrete portion with crushed limestone.
However, after a petition from the Sac County Conservation Board and Sauk Rail Trail Association (SRTA), an agreement was reached in March 2024 to remove the concrete to repair and rebuild the dike and replace the concrete trail next year.
Until the new trail is paved, the seven-tenths of a mile section will be closed from July 8 until the completion of the project in 2025.
