Earlier this month students across Iowa came together to promote active transportation and healthier, more sustainable lifestyles.
On May 8th, students, parents, and educators walked, biked, or rolled to school to reduce traffic congestion and highlight the health benefits of physical activities.
Officials say that Iowa ranked 11th in the nation in terms of participation.
“We are thrilled with the level of participation and the positive impact that Walk, Bike, and Roll to School Day had on our communities,” said Matt Burkey, Safe Routes to School Coordinator at the Iowa Bicycle Coalition. “The event not only promoted physical activity and environmental awareness but also brought people together in a meaningful way. Achieving 11th place nationally for schools participating per capita is a testament to Iowa’s dedication to these important values.”
