The Sioux Center Trails Council and city staff received Sioux Center City Council approval to apply for a grant funding for a trail extension project.

The proposed trail would be almost 2 miles of new trail. It would be located in the road right of way along 20th Street Southeast from the Highway 75 South intersection by Pizza Hut to its intersection with 13th Avenue Southeast by the city’s wastewater treatment plant, then going north along 13th Avenue Southeast up to a waterway just south of Sioux Center Health and along that waterway to the west to connect to the existing trail at Sioux Center Health’s pond.

The estimated cost of the trail is $1.1 million.

The Iowa Department of Transportation sets aside $5 million for a statewide Transportation Alternatives Program to support smaller-scale transportation projects such as pedestrian and bicycle facilities, recreational trails and safe routes to school projects, to name a few.
