The trails and overlook on Mount Trashmore will close Sunday for the season.
More than 20,000 people this season partook of hiking, biking or walking the trails and seeing the view of the city from atop the closed landfill at 2250 A St. SW, according to the Cedar Rapids Linn County Solid Waste Agency.
About 60 people this season completed the “Mount Trashmore Challenge” sponsored by The District: Czech Village & New Bohemia. The challenge involved scaling Mount Trashmore 140 times -- the equivalent of reaching the top of Mount Everest.
Mount Trashmore will reopen for 2024 in the spring when weather permits.
