On August 09, 2008 at 6:30 AM 19 Iowans will compete in the Leadville Trail 100 Mountain Bike Race in Leadville Colorado
The Leadville Trail 100 MTB is one of the oldest of a growing number of 100 mile Marathon Mountain Bike Races. It was first run in 1994 and has become one of the best known marathon events in mountain bike racing. Entry is by lottery, with entries due by the end of January each year for the race that is run the second Saturday in August.

Course
The race is run on a 50-mile out and back course, starting and finishing in downtown Leadville, Colorado, at 10,200 ft elevation. Major climbs include 3000+ ft from miles 40-50 to the Columbine mine, Powerline at mile 80, and St Kevins at mile 86. Total elevation change is roughly 14,000 feet.
History
In 2007, Floyd Landis of Tour de France fame placed second behind Dave Wiens. Wiens has won the race every year since 2003, and in 2007 he broke the 7 hour mark for the first time.
