The Des Moines Cycle Club is one of the oldest bicycle clubs west of the Mississippi. Check out this club's activities and their dedication to Iowa cycling!

BIKEIOWA is please to announce its newest 2007 sponsor – The Des Moines Cycle Club (DMCC) DMCC has been promoting bicycling in Iowa and throughout the United States for the past 25+ years. Over the years we have sponsored many cycling events often raising thousands of dollars for various charities. We love to ride our bikes! Club meetings and club-sponsored rides are a great way to meet and learn from other cyclists. Various speakers are invited to talk about their unique perspectives on cycling. Once a year we put together the world famous Swap 'n Sell. It is our opportunity to get rid of some bike gizmos we just had to have for something we can really use. During the warmer months, our meetings move from the warm inside to the outside. The club sponsors cookouts at area parks. When the weather turns warmer, club members lead regularly scheduled rides each week. While some are training rides for our racing team covering 30 miles or more in just a couple of hours (those animals!), others are much more relaxed. Those rides follow city, county and state bicycle trails and stop often to smell the roses (or get an ice cream cone at the local Dairy Sweet). MEMBERS Members are from all walks of life and interests from young to retired, racing to mountain biking to touring and beginner to advanced. Many have been riding their whole life. Others are just getting started. Whether you are a member one of or more cycling clubs in Iowa, you need to join and support the Des Moines Cycle Club. For only $15 per year, you get so much in return from monthly meetings, newsletters, weekly rides, cookouts, Camaraderie, etc. Are you new to town? Looking for a bike club? RACE TEAM The Des Moines Cycle Club is the home club of the Des Moines Orthopedic Surgeons/Bike World Race Team, the largest competitive cycling team in Iowa with more than 50 racers on the roster. The team is one of the few in the nation with two Level 1 (Elite) USA Cycling licensed coaches. It is also one of a few teams in the United States designated by the USA Cycling Development Foundation as a Center of Excellence for developing potential Olympic bike racers. The team's riders compete in road races, time trials, criteriums, cyclocross races, mountain bike races and brevets. There are also riders who compete as triathletes and have joined the team to improve their cycling skills. The team's focus is on developing new riders, and junior, women and masters racing. Team members train and compete year-round in many races throughout Iowa and the Midwest.
