Coming to Central Iowa ~ an off-road race that involves riders having to dismount and run over obstacles, carrying their bikes ~

The Des Moines Cyclocross Mafia presented by the DMOS/Mortgage Solutions Bicycle Racing Team is back for 2004 to ‘Cross Out Crohn’s Disease’ with five cyclocross races in Des Moines and Newton for 2004 and a new overall points series with $600 in cash prizes including the Bettendorf Cyclocross Race.

What is Cyclo-Cross?

Cyclo-cross 101 - "The how to"

Cobbling together a cheap Cyclocross bike

As the leaves change colors, cyclocross is where roadies, TTr’s, MtBr’s and trackies all converge in parks across the nation. Their differences are put aside as they all race to see who is the best in the most difficult of all racing disciplines. Courses include paved roads, gravel, dirt, grass and wooden barriers to challenge the racers and take them to their aerobic limits. Any bike can be used, but there is only one CYCLOCROSS BIKE.

Note: Singlespeed category for bikes with just one gear and mountainbikes for anyone riding a (you guessed it) mountainbike (riders may choose category to race in at each race). $5.00 for two-races in one day. USAC rules allow NORBA licensees to race cyclocross events with their NORBA licenses. Mountain bikes are legal, no bar ends. All events open to un-licensed riders. 1-day USCF racing licenses will be available at the race for $5.00. 1-day licensees can race with the cat 5 for men.
