This year, the Meltdown continues... The Mid-Winter Meltdown will commence on Saturday January 18th at 5 pm at the The 7 Flags Event Center. (This is the night before the official RAGBRAI meeting, so many cyclists will be in town that evening!) This year, all proceeds go toward programs to benefit youth cycling in Iowa. Two programs that will benefit from the Midwinter Meltdown proceeds are: A program that will combine youth aged 13-18, with volunteer mentors, for the goal of developing a healthy spirit, mind and body, and a productive approach to life's challenges through preparation for and participation in RAGBRAI. “Smart Wheeler Ride Safely” program - a cycling program that helps keep our children safe, keep them active, and teach them about the benefits of cycling. The pilot program will be provided to 38 Iowa elementary schools for use in their third and fourth grade physical education classes next spring. Last year, the cyclists, the firefighters and many others came together to raise funds for the family of John Moran, a member of the FDNY and RAGBRAI's team Escape From New York. Over $50,000 was raised for a good cause and we all had a great time!
