The Hotel Pattee’s Frontier Shack is a tribute to the original Frontier Shack, a dining car on the “City of Denver” train that ran from Chicago to Denver.

We are pleased to announce that the Frontier Shack has joined as a BIKEIOWA Sponsor.

The Frontier Shack is a collaboration between the Hotel Pattee and Flat Tire Lounge to bring you food service on the High Trestle Trail.

About the Frontier Shack

The Frontier Shack is a tribute to the original Frontier Shack, a dining car on the "City of Denver" train that ran from Chicago to Denver.

Train history is a large part of the Hotel Pattee. In David's Milwaukee Diner, the dining areas are inspired by a railroad depot restaurant.

The expansion of the bike trails in Iowa as a result of Rails-To-Trails, created a natural connection as Hotel Pattee expands its food service to the High Trestle Trail in order to connect the ideas of railroads , cycling and history.

The passenger train “City of Denver” made its first trip between Chicago and Denver in June of 1936. The train traveled 1,048 miles in 16 hours. It was the fastest long-distance train in the world. The refreshment car on the train was the Frontier Shack. Designed in an Old West theme with pictures of cowboys, wanted posters, and memories of the frontier.

About Flat Tire Lounge

The Flat Tire Lounge is only 3 miles from the High Trestle Trail and offers a great atmosphere to hang out with other cyclists and enjoy a cool refreshment (or two).

The Flat Tire Lounge was started by 10 local friends and opened June 2011. The building was originally an old feed store when the train tracks were in. The inside was remodeled featuring a unique bar counter top made with concrete and broken wine bottles polished down for a smooth finish. Their main attraction is there 800 square foot deck that is less than 12 feet from the High Trestle Trail. Over the last few years, we have made many friends and had plenty of great times!
