If you haven’t attended the Iowa Bicycle Summit & Expo yet, this is the year to attend. The
2012 event promises to be better than ever before with more vendor exhibits, free advocacy
workshops, and new trail building sessions.

Friday, January 27, begins with the bicycle facility and trail workshops. This session is
designed for engineers, planners and other community ocials and continuing education
credit is available. Roger Geller, bicycle coordinator in Portland, Oregon will be training
attendees to use the new NACTO Urban Bikeway Design Guide. This guide has some of the
cutting edge bicycle facilities for cities to implement.

The technical workshop has expanded sessions to include trail building. Trail sessions will
discuss trail maintenance, design, and policy issues. Land managers, trail supporters, and
community ocials are urged to attend these sessions to learn more about trails.
Saturday, January 28 is part bicycle expo and part advocacy education. The Saturday
sessions include information on trails, safety, safe routes to school, marketing and mountain
bicycling. All Saturday sessions are free and open to the public.

The bicycle expo on January 28 will host more than 60 exhibitors showing the latest in new
bicycle gear, training, trails, and events. Bicycling destinations and tourism attractions will
be on hand.

The event caps off with the RAGBRAI Route Announcement Party on the evening of January
28.

EXPO

This year will feature a consumer bicycle expo on January 28 free to the public.  More than 60 exhibitors will be on hand to show the latest in new bicycle gear, training, trails, and events.  A large group of destination exhibitors are slated to attend.

SPEAKERS

The Iowa Bicycle Summit has one of the best lineups of speakers as we have ever had.  Don’t miss this amazing opportunity to bring more bicycles to your community. 

Roger Geller, the Bicycle Coordinator from Portland, Oregon will lead a workshop on the new NACTO Urban Bikeways Design Guide.  This new guide is just off the presses and features some of the cutting edge designs used in areas across the United States.  

Lindsay Martin and Eric Oberg from the Rails to Trails Conservancy will be speaking about trail maintenance and what is new in trail building.  This is a great opportunity to learn from industry experts.

RAGBRAI Route Announcement Party 

Do you want to know the 2012 RAGBRAI XL Route?   Attend the RAGBRAI Route Announcemetn Party on January 28, 2012 at the Iowa Events Center Vets Auditorium in Des MoinesThe evening will feature live music with a special performance Boogie and the Yo Yoz.  This is the event that kicks off the year of bicycling.  Details and Registration
