UPDATES:
  • 11/11 - Race Party on Saturday, November 27th 7:00 pm or whenever you get there to whenever you leave. Location, The Hideaway, 310 East Prentiss Street, Iowa City, IA 52240
  • 11/11 - Did you Know: Jingle Cross Rock was upgraded from a C2 to a C1 event this year. What does that mean? The C1 designation is the highest designation a race can have other than a World Cup. The points for world ranking are much higher, Moreover, the payout for the professional riders is 4x the C2 designation and it is a highly prestigious event. There are only 5-6 C1 races in North America. A C2 event is like AAA baseball, a C1 is Major League. World Cup is the playoffs, and the World Championships is the World Series. It's Pretty Dang Cool that Iowa City has an event like this!
WANTED: MORE COWBELL:
  • Can you hold a cowbell in one hand and a beverage in the other?
  • Do you think Sausage, Meat-Sticks, Marshmallows and Jello-shots make great race snacks?
  • Are you a fun-loving person?
  • Do you like to watch others suffer?
  • Are you a Cat 1 heckler? If not, do you wanna be?
  • Can you spell "S-p-e-c-t-a-c-u-l-a-r"??
If yes, then read on... You just may fit the bill! Jingle Cross Rock is seeking "Spectators" for the 2010 races.  Not just your average spectator, but a special breed of cycling fanatics. You've see "them" at football games... right?!?  yeah I thought so. If you think you are one of the cycling fanatics we are looking for then you must possess these skill-sets and requirements:
  • You must be willing to travel... (to the Johnson County Fairgrounds on November 26th, 27th and/or 28th)
  • You must have great party attitude
  • Thou shall exhibit great Spectator-ship
  • Cowbelling
  • Cheering and Heckling experience is a BIG plus!
  • Must be open minded and willing to try new things (maybe even the 35 minute beginners race??)
  • Must travel to the very top of coveted Mt. Krumpit in search of racers to cheer, and cheer you will!
If you possess the skills sought, you may have a future in Spectator-ship at Jingle Cross Rock and we'd love for you to start on Friday evening, November 26th and "work" the weekend. Will train the right person... Note: You may find it awkward and strange to see so many people having so much fun at a winter bike race. Relax, you'll get over it!

Dave is well known internationally for his cycling knowledge and voice personality with his experience in large ProTour events both on US soil and abroad . Joining Dave will be his partner in last years Cross Nationals, John Lefler from Nebraska.
  • The Single Speed Speedo Race...Now THAT's something to see! Last year set the bar folks! Geoff's Bike and Ski and Sugar Bottom Bikes are both sponsors of the Saturday and Sunday Single Speed races at the Jingle Cross on Saturday (Sugar Bottom Bikes) and Sunday (Geoff's Bike and Ski). In keeping with last year's nipply tradition, riders in these events can optionally wear a SPEEDO (or BIKINI!) only and automatically win a prize in addition to the regular payout that they will be racing for. Bring your camera, your heckling hat, and toe warmers!...this WILL get ugly!
  • The Friday Races Rock as they are NIGHT Races!
  • The Saturday night race party at the Hideaway
  • The Grinch's Kid Race on Sunday
  • The Whoville Whirl [insert dizziness here]
  • Mt. Krumpit - yep the whole thing
  • The PARTY at the top of Mt. Krumpit
  • The Flyover - New for 2010! - rumor has it that the name will be the "Slusher Gusher" or "Summit Pummet" (See it here right after construction. It will be decorated to the max by race day!
  • And the coolest is that ALL proceeds go to the Children's Hospital of Iowa!
THE VENUEThe Race Venue at the Johnson County Fairgrounds is quite unique. In addition to great spectator viewing, indoor restrooms, indoor shower facilities, and ample parking, our race venue will be decked out to suit the Holiday Theme of the event. The Race Course Director, Todd Gillihan is busy working with Santa's elves and Grinch's dog Max, getting the course ready for the riders, reindeer, and whatever else wanders onto the course in 2010. The most challenging section will be the infamous Run-up-it to Mt. Krumpit. Spectators can see over 90% of the race from atop this craggily peak. And the Grinch's Lair will be back! A new set of surprises will certainly mix things up for 2010 including the Whoville Whirl and the new "Flyover"... The race course maps are subject to minor modifications pending weather conditions, lighting conditions for Rock Night....and may need to be changed emergently if the Grinch shows up.
1ST TIMER?Never tried Cyclocross ?!? This is a great place to try your skills in the 35 minute beginner's race then stick around for the other races. There are beginners races each day and and Junior's races just on Sat and Sun. The course is for excellent spectating! Also, check out Cyclocross 101
SOCIALPost Race Jingle Cross Party!!! Saturday, November 27th 7:00 pm - ?? Hideaway, Downtown Iowa City - 310 East Prentiss Street, Iowa City, IA 52240 (Map).
BIKEIOWA NOTEI absolutely love Jingle Cross Rock weekend! It's definitely in the Top 5 cycling events of the year to attend. Each year, something memorable and unique happens. Yes, the holiday-themed courses rock, the spectators are top-notch, the Pros are a riot to watch their "effortlessness". But it's the things like Sunday of 2008 where Mt. Krumpit was soooo muddy on the downhill. Words cannot explain, but video can. Or the 2009 Saturday Speedo (& Bikini) Race. Classic!! Again, words cannot describe, but photos and video can! Cyclocross is crazy-hard, but ya just cannot get enough of it once you start. You Race for 30-45-60 minutes. Then once you are done racing, you Get changed into some warm clothes, grab a beverage of choice (the beer... oh yes, you earned it. ) and commence to watching the rest races with 500+ of your closest cycling friends. It will give the best tailgating party a run for it's money... guaranteed. It is super-cool to see how the sport has grown even more this year. More races, multiple series in the state, well-attended practices and clinics, spectators up the wazoo and Jingle Cross will be no exception! With the upgrade from UCI C2 to C1 that means more Pro racers will attend because they can get more points and more prize moola in 3 days and they don't have to race in Europe to do it! Expect more racers and many more spectators this year! It is so much fun to watch elite racers run up a hill only a few feet away while everyone is partying on Mt Krumpit. Of course it is just as fun to watch every race that weekend! You can spectate from hundreds of spots along the race course. BIKEIOWA will be there all weekend, rain, snow or shine! Hopefully we will have good weather, but no matter what, the atmosphere will be low-key and a great place to spend the weekend. Come on out for the weekend - you are guaranteed GREAT time! Look for the BIKEIOWA RV near the course infield. We are tailgating all weekend and hope to have a couple of munchie tables. Feel free to bring some munchies, a crock-pot full of chili, cider, etc. We'll have room for it. THANKS to John, Todd, Mark, Team Skin and the rest the crew for putting on such a great race weekend!
