THE VENUE The Race Venue at the Johnson County Fairgrounds is quite unique. In addition to great spectator viewing, indoor restrooms, indoor shower facilities, and ample parking, our race venue will be decked out to suit the Holiday Theme of the event. The Race Course Director, Todd Gillihan is busy working with Santa's elves and Grinch's dog Max, getting the course ready for the riders, reindeer, and whatever else wanders onto the course in 2009. The most challenging section will be the infamous Run-up-it to Mt. Krumpit. Spectators can see over 90% of the race from atop this craggily peak. And the Grinch's Lair will be back! A new set of surprises will certainly mix things up for 2009 including the Whoville Whirl and the new course for 2009, Rock Night on Friday, November 27th. The race course maps are subject to minor modifications pending weather conditions, lighting conditions for Rock Night....and may need to be changed emergently if the Grinch shows up.
1ST TIMER? Never tried Cyclocross ?!? This is a great place to try your skills in the 35 minute beginner's race then stick around for the other races. There are beginners races each day and and Junior's races just on Sat and Sun. The course is for excellent spectating! Also, check out Cyclocross 101
SOCIAL Post Race Jingle Cross Party!!! Saturday, November 28th 7:00 pm - ?? Airliner, Downtown Iowa City. Featuring "Warriors of Cyclocross", a film by Keith Walberg in HD ($5 donation requested).
BIKEIOWA NOTE Ahh... My favorite Cyclocross event of the year... Of all the events we go to each year, I'd rate Jingle Cross Rock in my TOP 10 overall Iowa cycling events to attend! It's hurts so bad. This will be my 4th year racing and spectating at Jingle Cross. Cyclocross is crazy-hard, but ya just cannot get enough of it once you start. Race for 30-45 minutes. Then once you are done racing, the beer... oh yes, you earned it. Get changed into some warm clothes, grab a beverage of choice and commence to watching the rest races with 500+ of your closest cycling friends. If you were not there on Sunday of 2008 to see the "Muddy Mt. Krumpit" down hill. You missed out. Words cannot explain, but video can. Cyclocross 2009 - I cannot think of a better way to wrap up the 2009 cyclocross season that with Jingle Cross. It is super-cool to see how the sport has grown this year. Twice the number of races, multiple series, well-attended practices and clinics, spectators up the wazoo and Jingle Cross is no exception! Expect more racers and many more spectators this year! It is so much fun to watch elite racers run up a hill only a few feet away while everyone is partying on Mt Krumpit. Of course it is just as fun to watch every race that weekend! There are tons of places to view the races too. We plan to be there all weekend, rain, snow or shine! Hopefully we will have good weather, but no matter what, the atmosphere will be low-key and a great place to spend the weekend. Come on out for the weekend - you are guaranteed GREAT time! Look for the BIKEIOWA RV near the course infield. We are tailgating all weekend and hope to have a couple of food tables. Feel free to bring some munchies, a crock-pot full of chili, cider, etc. We'll have room for it. THANKS to John, Todd, Mark, Team Skin and the rest the crew for putting on such a great race weekend
