Mountain Biking

General Information

Every Wednesday evening this summer, Cheryl and Katherine are hosting a weekly ride for women who want to learn how to mountain bike, want to get better at mountain biking, want to explore new trails, want to practice for mountain bike races, or just want to ride with other women.

All skill levels are encouraged to come ride! You just need a mountain bike,* a helmet, and a desire to have fun. Beginner through expert, we will break into multiple groups as appropriate.

We will make sure no one gets lost and everyone has support to try new things, and we’ll offer tips and instruction along the way.

We plan to meet at a variety of local (DSM area) trails to get lots of experience. Keep checking Facebook and the "Information Specific to this Date" section below for updates. Locations may change due to weather and trail conditions.

* Except at Sycamore, where almost any bike will do.

Information Specific to this Date

Watch here for updates specific to Women’s Weekly Wednesday Mountain Bike Ride (WWWMBR) week #21 — August 20, 2014, 5:30 p.m.

Meeting Location: We will meet in the gravel lot on the south side of 66th Avenue. It is west of the river and east of the Johnston soccer fields. If you click the "MAP" link below the "Event Start Address," you will see it.

Road Construction: NW Beaver is closed for construction on the stretch from NW Johnston Dr up to NW 62nd. If you would normally come up on Beaver, take Merle Hay to NW 62nd, take that to Beaver, and then go north on Beaver to NW 66th.

What Bike to Bring: Sycamore Trail is the easiest trail around—a perfect place to try it out! You can ride this trail on a mountain bike, hybrid, cross bike, cruiser, bmx bike, whatever you have lying around (anything but the really skinny road tires).

Weather Update (8/20/2014 12:15 p.m.): Darn. When the rain first came through this morning, maybe there was a chance. But no. Too cloudy and the sky is still dripping. The trail will be too wet. We aren't riding.
