The 2014 Iowa Bicycle Summit will roll into Des Moines on January 24 at the Iowa Events Center. The Iowa Bicycle Summit is the education conference that trains engineers, community officials, and advocates on how to build better bicycle facilities.
This year the Iowa Bicycle Summit will focus on bicycle facility designs on a small scale that can inspire large scale changes. Training will be provided by Mike Lydon from The Street Plans Collaborative in New York City. Mike collaborated with Andres Duany and Jeff Speck in writing The Smart Growth Manual, published by McGraw-Hill in 2009 and honored by Planetizen as one of the top ten planning books of 2010. Mike is also the creator and primary author of the The Open Streets Project and Tactical Urbanism: Short-Term Action, Long-Term Change Vol.1 and Vol.2.
In addition, there will concurrent sessions on trails and trail design. Finally, the Iowa Bicycle Summit will continue a session on bicycle facility funding. The session will be similar to speed dating, where participants will have the opportunity to meet in small groups with funding coordinators.
The Iowa Bicycle Summit is the must-attend workshop if your community is building, designing, or planning a trail or bike lane or more bicycle facilities
