Wednesday: Hard Rain in the morning, but a great afternoon for cycling!

5:30pm The East Village Bike Rack unveiling went off great. Approx. 30 people showed up (many business-dressed persons and East village residents... Maybe 10-15 bikers)

Carl Voss gave a short speech and explained the racks and then handed out maps and we all walked/rode to see all the racks within a 5-6 block radius. Bike World and the rack committee put bicycles in/on all the racks!

They racks are pretty darned cool!

6:15 pm Carl Voss hosted a reception at his 'loft' for those involved with the Rack-n-Roll contest.

7:00pm Ride of Silence

50+ strong showed up. Tracy Wisnounsky of Team Tall Dog from Ames led the ride out (her husband was killed in a bicycle accident late last fall) Team Tall Dog was in full force and made up 1/2 the riders.

Others came with cyclists pictures pinned to their back who were killed on the road

Ride went great... From East Village, down Grand, all the way to Tech high school and back on Locust. approx 3.5 miles

We all stuck together, no one riding spoke, no one yelled at us. It was an emotional ride for some.

This will definitely be an annual event!

7:45pm Scavenger Hunt

The majority left after the Ride of Silence, but we had 4 teams compete in the Scavenger hunt (12 participants)

There were 15 questions, and participants rode their bikes around an 8 block radius searching for the answers. The winners came in after 35 minutes with 14 correctly answered questions. 2nd place had 11 correct, 3rd place 7 correct and the 4 place team found there way to Court Ave Brew pub - DNF

Just Plain Fun

Distance - on your own to get there and back. The Ride of Silence is 3.5 miles.

• 5:30 pm Rack-n-Roll 10 Bike Racks will be unvelied that have been developed by local artists. These bicycle “art racks” are functional pieces that serve the dual purpose of securing bicycles while introducing public art into the East Village streetscape Unveiling at the SW corner of E. 6th and Locust…The terrace at the Historical Building
  
  
• 7:00 pm A Ride of Silence will take place to honor of those who have been injured or killed while cycling on America's public roadways. This is a silent slow-paced ride (max. 12 mph). RIDE DETAILS
  
  
• 7:45 pm A Scavenger Hunt will take place in and around the East Village streetscape! Team up with a friend and locate information based off clues! May be done on bike or foot! Your choice!
