From the CIRREM Organizers: Thank you to everyone who made it out yesterday in less than desirable conditions. Even those who didn’t get out on course managed to have a good time thanks to Bob and the Cumming Tap. Thanks to the volunteers, racers, and all the supporters of this little Iowa winter gravel bike race.

BIKEIOWA Recap: Congratulations to Brian West for winning in 5 hours and 2 minutes.

250 signed up, 40-ish started and only 17 finished.

Brian's time was actually the slowest winning time in all 11 CIRREMS. Not because he is slow, but because of the conditions. For the 1st 15 miles, roads were wet GLARE ice, and for the lat 50 miles it was sloppy and wet with patches of ice.

2019 – foggy with periods of rain turning to snow late, low 30’s 10 mph wind ice gravel melting to slush

2017 – sunny mid 60’s 10-15 mph wind dry gravel

2016 – sunny mid 60’s 15-25 mph wind dry gravel

2015 – sunny teens to 20 frozen gravel

2014 – sunny, mid 20’s-30’s snow/ice gravel with a lot of melting soft gravel

2013 – sunny, teens to 20’s mostly frozen gravel

2012 – sunny, 20’s to low 30’s icy gravel turning soft

2011 – temps in the teens to mid 20’s with 2-3 inches of fresh snow and some freezing mist to boot

2010 – temps 18-30 sunny with snow pack gravel thawing in the afternoon

2009 – 25-34 degrees sleet/rain/snow windy and wet/soft gravel

Route

100k gravel loop southwest of des moines.  take in some of that madison county hill action.

Registration

Registration opens on Nov. 23, 2018 @ 8PM.  Sells out that night, so be on it.
