RAGBRAI co-founder John Karras turns 88 years young this Saturday, March 10th. Please join us at the new West Des Moines shop at noon *sharp* as we honor and celebrate John's birthday. We will have cupcakes for the first 88 people, and light refreshments for all. PLEASE NOTE: This celebration will be a gentle surprise for him, so please keep this news quiet if you happen to talk to him this week.

A BIT ABOUT JOHN KARRAS:
John Karras (aka Grandpa RAGBRAI) has forever changed the sport of cycling in Iowa and beyond. His crazy idea of inviting readers of The Des Moines Register to join him and fellow columnist Don Kaul in a week long ride across Iowa spawned a cycling culture that has been unbelievable. RAGBRAI has produced an enthusiasm for the sport unlike anywhere else in the United States.

This excitement for cycling has led to the extensive trail systems in Iowa that we currently enjoy, in addition to the trails we know have multiple organized rides every week during the cycling season. Another offshoot from this Karras effect has been the birthing of cycling advocates who work tirelessly on behalf of cyclists everywhere.
