Description

Road

Distance - 106 and 86 - Long Route, and 66 and 40 – Short Route

This is a 2 day ride, up and back from the Quad Cities to Dubuque, Iowa. On Saturday, the route starts in Iowa, at Scott Community College in Bettendorf, and heads north to Sabula. At Sabula, we cross the Mississippi River and travel north through Galena into Wisconsin. Around Menominee, WI, we head west and cross the Mississippi River again into Dubuque. Our overnight is spent at Clarke and Loras Colleges where we have dorm rooms and camping space available. Many riders also choose to stay in an area hotel. On Saturday night, all riders are treated to a fabulous sit down meal in the dinning room at Clarke College. We eat off of linen draped tables using real plates and silverware. On Sunday, we ride back to the Quad Cities on the Iowa side of the river. The mileage for Saturday is 106 miles and for Sunday is 86 miles.

Route

This ride travels along the Mississippi River. The roads we travel are paved county roads that feature: flats, rolling hills and tough climbs up and over some of the bluffs along the Mississippi River. You should consider this ride a challenge and not a "cake walk". It comes early in the cycling season for century rides. It is also not uncommon to have tail winds on one day and headwinds on the next. If you complete this ride, it is a badge of honor. There is a shorter route option that starts and ends at Preston, Iowa. The mileages for this route are 66 miles on Saturday and 40 on Sunday. However, this shorter option cuts out the flats and rolling hills that are closer to the Quad Cities.
