us for the Third Annual Mayor’s Bike Ride on Saturday, May 14, at 9 a.m. in
West Des Moines!
Mayor Steven Gaer will kick off the Third
Annual Mayor’s Bike Ride in West Des Moines on Saturday, May 14, at 9 a.m. at
City Hall, 4200 Mills Civic Parkway.
Bicyclists can choose one of three routes
through the City: a leisurely 4-mile recreational trail loop, a 12 mile
on-street route or a 24 mile on-street route that will take cyclists through a
variety of terrains and parts of the City. All routes start and stop at West
Des Moines City Hall.
The fee for the ride is $10 per rider.
Registered participants will receive a T-shirt. Families with children ages 6
and over may register together for a maximum fee of $25. Day of event
registration will be held at 8 a.m.
West Des Moines Emergency Medical Services
(EMS) will be giving away free bike helmets, and Hy-Vee’s Healthy You Mobile
will be supplying nutritious snacks and
beverages for riders from 8 a.m. to noon.
New this year:
Elementary
School Challenge Award
All eight elementary schools in West Des Moines could earn up to $200 just for
participating in this year’s ride. A grant from the West Des Moines Community
Enrichment Foundation will award $200 to each of the two schools with the most
participants. The next three schools will receive $150 each, and the remaining
schools will receive $100 each.
Mayor’s Cup Award
Do you work for a WDM business? If so, get your coworkers together to
participate in the Mayor’s Cup Award challenge. The business team with the
highest level of participation will receive a traveling trophy for display at
their business for one year.
