Information is being sought regarding a recent hit-and-run incident that resulted in fatal injuries to a bicyclist in Guthrie County.
According to Iowa State Patrol, the incident occurred at about 6:27 a.m. on March 11th on Highway 141 about 476 feet west of the Highway 25 intersection near Sparky’s One Stop in Bayard.
Seventy-three year-old Gary Lee Clipperton of Bayard was riding a bicycle eastbound when he was struck by an eastbound vehicle. Clipperton was transported by Bayard Emergency Medical Services to MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center for life-threatening injuries.
He later passed away this Tuesday at Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Rapids.
Iowa State Patrol states there were no contact marks on the bicycle or marks on the roadway to show that Clipperton was directly hit while riding the bicycle, though the physician who treated him stated they believed his injuries were caused by being struck rather than falling off the bicycle.
