A group of trail enthusiasts has reached its fundraising goal to installa giant public art pieceat the gateway to theRaccoon River Valley Trailon the western edge of Waukee.

The group recently received a $147,650 grant from the Iowa Economic Development Authority'sVision Iowa Board. That donation completed three years of fundraising for the $1.1 millionsculpture planned for the trailhead at Hickman Road and 10th Street.

Construction on the infrastructure to accommodate the artwork will start next month, according to a news release from the Raccoon River Valley Trail Association. The artist will begin fabricating components of the structureover the winter, with final installation scheduled for summer 2017.
