Wednesday, Cedar Falls and Marion each held the Ride of Silence events to honor cyclists who have been killed or injured on public roadways and raise awareness for cyclists rights.
The Ride of Silence is held every year during National Bike Month to raise awareness that cyclists have the legal right of way over drivers.
This also serves as a good reminder of the things drivers can do to help keep bicyclist safe.
Drivers should look carefully for cyclists before turning right and merge safely toward the curb or into the bike lane. Do not pass a cyclist just before making a right turn. Merge first, and then turn.
