Work to begin the relocation of a segment of the popular Great Western Trail could begin as soon as April, according to documents released Friday by the city of West Des Moines.
However, West Des Moines City Engineer Duane Wittstock said that timeline is likely ambitious.
"This was what (the engineering firm) put together, what they could achieve, but the political schedule is probably going to be slower than that," Wittstock said.
A portion of the 16.5-mile trail now passes through Willow Creek Golf Course. However, course owner Dan Clark has asked the city to consider moving the trail so that it goes around the course instead of through it.
