East Village resident Carl Voss has been appointed to temporarily fill a Ward 4 seat on the Des Moines City Council.
Voss’s
appointment was approved by a 5-1 vote during a special council meeting
Monday morning. Councilman Skip Moore cast the lone “No” vote.
Voss
was one of four finalists who interviewed for the position last week.
Other finalists were Jo Corigliano, Vince Scavo and Rebecca Morelock.
Morelock withdrew her name after last Wednesday’s interview.
Voss,
65, currently sits on the city’s Traffic Safety Committee. He also
serves as chairman of the Des Moines Bicycle Collective.
“I
thought for a short time I could squeeze this into my schedule, do a
good job and meet some people I haven’t before,” Voss said after the
appointment. “I guess I’ll have a legitimate excuse for being late on my
Christmas cards this year.”
