It's part bike ride, it's part food drive, it's part scavenger hunt...it's CRANKSGIVING!! You'll have a chance to not only ride your bike, but also bring food and shelter to those who need it. Please join in the AlleyCat race that's fun and rewarding.
Registration will open at 11:00am on November 24 and the event will begin promptly at 12:00 p.m. At registration, you'll be given a waiver to sign, a list of 7 food items, a small map of the area grocery/convenient stores, and a FREE t-shirt from T-shirt gra...phix.
Ride whatever bike you bring—mountain, road, hybrid, unicycle, recumbent, cruiser, rat rod—to 7 different stores, picking up 1 item from your list at each store.
When 7 items are purchased from 7 stores, race back to Mars Cafe. The first person back in each category will win the coveted golden crank.
The categories this year:
Male
Female
Junior
Tandem
Family
Fixie
Single Speed
Out of Towner
The Best Costume will also win a special prize. :D
After everyone has returned to Mars, we'll celebrate with free-will donation beer from New Belgium Brewery and Peace Tree Brewery for all who are 21 years of age or older. Or get some hot cocoa or coffee and a bite to eat while we pull winning names for prizes from Sakari, Rasmussen's Bike Shop, Kyle's Bikes, Beaverdale Bicycles, Star Bar, Cumming Tap, Back Country Outfitters and so many more.
After all the prizes are out, we'll pull the winning raffle tickets for the custom bike created by ICHI BIKE, the funky bike shop down in the East Village on E. Walnut.
The more raffle tickets you buy means more homeless women and children you help shelter for Hawthorn Hill!!
All of the food donations will be going to Des Moines Area Religious Council. All of the money brought in from the bikes and the beer will be donated Hawthorn Hill Homeless Shelter for Families.
Message Sara Broek with any questions! Hope to see you there!
