Fund Raiser for Matt Hudson. Matt would have been a senior this year at Roosevelt High School. In late July 2004 after a morning weight lifting session at school Matt went home to rest and started to get a severe headache. It escalated quickly and Matt was taken to the hospital where they diagnosed him with a congenital brain defect called an arteriovenous malformation. To alleviate the swelling of his brain a part of his scalp was removed and he has been in a near coma state ever since. He has been in and out of hospitals both in Des Moines and Iowa City for the last 18 months. His progress has been slow, but the family is hopeful that he will continue to make a recovery.

Route

Matt has been at On With Life, a transitional facility in Ankeny, when he has not been in the hospital. The Hudsons are in the process of bringing Matt home to be with the family. The family has renovated their home by building a ramp, purchasing a special bed, in-home medical equipment, and special restroom fixtures. Many of these items and miscellaneous expenses have not been covered by insurance and a benefit has been organized to help with this cost. A group of Roosevelt parents are organizing a “Help Bring Matt Home” dinner and auction on March 5, 2006 at the Val Air Ballroom. I am helping with this event and I would like to invite you to help too by either coming to the dinner, or we are currently soliciting silent and live auction items to be sold at our event.

If you have a business connection and know of an item that would be profitable to auction off, we would really appreciate that too. In addition, we would like to invite you to attend the event. The Val Air Ballroom has donated their facility, all of the food has been donated, the caterer has donated her prep time to cook and serve the food, and all the auction items have been donated.
