Too many people and places to thank. From the bar that hosted us to the volunteers to the businesses and humans that donated to our raffle to YOU—our participants— who showed up in full force today and showed us all, once again, how great the Des Moines cycling scene is.

Because of you all, the real winner today was Urban Bicycle Food Ministries. Exactly how it should be, as they spend every day of the year helping others.

CRANKSGIVING BY THE NUMERS:

• Donations for the raffle going directly to UBFM: $2397
• 113 participants X 10 shopping items=1130 unique items donated to UBFM ($30 average shopping total is $3390 in item donations).

*FYI, it takes about $1200 a week to do what UBFM does. So your contributions at Cranksgiving made a HUGE impact!*

(Let’s not forget an additional KUDOS to participants for providing an unexpected busy day of sales for several businesses in the Drake neighborhood!)

CRANKSGIVING is part scavenger hunt, part bike race(ride), part rolling food drive, all designed to be fun and give back to the community as we #raceforacause

Bring a bike, a bag and currency of your choosing. At registration, you’ll be handed a shopping list of several items.  At high noon your job is to navigate the streets of Des Moines making purchases for 10 specific items from the given list.  You may purchase items ANYWHERE YOU CHOOSE, but each item has to come from a DIFFERENT location (so you’ll be making 10 unique stops).  After you’ve completed your purchases, ride them back to Lucky Horse to finish and donate your items to Urban Bicycle Food Ministries.  Bring all 10 receipts as proof you made 10 unique stops.

 10 specific items and 10 receipts from 10 unique stops.  Fastest to achieve this is the winner*.  Easy.

*The REAL winner will be Urban Bicycle Food Ministries and all the folks they help, thanks to your participation. High five!

We'll provide a grocery list and map- you choose the stores and the route!

There is no registration fee, but you'll have to pony up for the cost of the groceries.
