Distance - Rider's Choice (0 to 20 miles)

THE EVENT: November 1st to November 21st, 2020. (Saturday, November 7th, 2020 is our "Official Day" but ride or donate at your own convenience during the first three weeks in November).

Cranksgiving is a food drive on two wheels: part bike ride, part food drive, and part scavenger hunt. It’s been held annually in New York City since 1999. Every year, throughout the country, Cranksgiving events help provide thousands of needy families with a wealth of food during the week of Thanksgiving. Iowa City will once again be joining this national movement! This will be our 2nd year!

Bring your bike, a helmet, a bag, a lock, your internal GPS, and around $20 to buy food and/or other necessities. You’ll be provided with a manifest listing various items to buy from specific grocery stores around town, as well as some optional destinations of your choosing.

DUE TO THE COVID-19/20 PANDEMIC, THERE WILL BE NO IN-PERSON EVENT!

?In lieu of this, we would like to encourage you, your family, to pick a day in November (or our official day, November 7th) to create your own route "freelance style".

Keep your receipt(s) as they will be needed to tally your items and total. If you'd like, get out your own stopwatch or GPS and record your route and time. We'll post the best times on the website as well as list our "Big Spenders".

You can race or go at your own pace - it's up to you!  You can even just pick up all the items from one store (recommended due to the pandemic).

All of the items collected during the event will go to the CommUnity Crisis Services and Food Bank and Table to Table in Iowa City.

If you'd rather not ride at all, but instead simply donate to the charities, you may do so by visiting the above organization during their business hours or online. A $20 minimal donation is highly encouraged, but please feel free to give whatever you can afford. Checks should be made out to: CommUnity Crisis Services and Food Bank and/or Table to Table (you can give to one charity or split the amount among both of them).

Despite the pandemic, we hope you will ride and/or donate! This year will be difficult for many families, and because of you, we'll be able to make it a happier Thanksgiving for many. Thank you! We hope to see you all again in person in 2021!
