“Bikes to Art” is a celebration of human-powered artistic expression bundled into a family-friendly bike art festival and whimsical parade. Artists and bike lovers are invited to decorate their bikes in any way possible to participate. Bikes can be simple or complex, and the only requirement is that they are human-powered. How you transform your bike is up to your imagination, skills, and resources. Using recycled materials is encouraged and how you build your bike (tape, welding, glue, wire, glitter, paint, etc.) is entirely up to you.

On May 20, 2017, the Grinnell Bikes to Art Festival will kick off at 9:00 am outside the Drake Community Public Library, Grinnell, IA. There will be decorating stations from 9:00-10:45 am staffed by Grinnell artists to help you customize your bikes into one of a kind artistic masterpieces. If you're feeling crafty, don’t wait until the day of the event to start transforming your bike, start NOW! Prizes awarded for the most creative bikes selected by our team of art loving judges.

The public is encouraged to join this parade with their decorated bikes, and if you’re not riding in the parade, please come out to enjoy the show from anywhere along the route.

Event Schedule:

- Bike decorating and art activities: 9:00 - 10:45 am
- Bike check-in and line up for the parade: 10:30 - 10:50 am
- Parade Starts: 11:00 - 11:45 am
- Live Music with The High Crest Family Band: 12:00 - 2:00 pm
- Food: 12:00 - 1:30 pm
- Bike Judging: 1:00 - 1:45 pm
- Best Bikes Awards Announced: 1:45 - 2:00 pm

Route

Parade Route:

We will leave from the Drake Library at 11:00 am, head down Park Street, turn right on 3rd Avenue, head up Broad St., right on 5th Ave, and finish back at the library.
