Once again, children will have the opportunity to hop around Sheldon City Park to hunt down candy and treats as the annual Children’s Easter Egg Hunt at 10 a.m. Saturday.

The Sheldon Chamber and Development Corporation event had to take 2020 off because of the coronavirus pandemic.

But the 16th annual Easter Egg Hunt returns with more than 10,000 eggs ready to go.

“They are filled with little treats and lots of candy,” said Sheldon chamber director Shantel Oostra. “The kids are pretty excited about it. I am pretty excited about it. We had everything lined up and ready to go last year and it was one of the first things we had to cancel.”

....

Oostra is planning for about 500 kids and the Easter Bunny, who will be making an appearance.

....

As in the past, children in attendance have a chance to win one of 10 bicycles being given away. Oostra said due to a delay, the bikes will not be on site but each child who wins one will be given a certificate to pick up the bicycle when it comes in.

There are two certificates for each age group as there are designated girls’ bikes and designated boys’ bikes.

To gain entry for the bike drawing, parents have to print off the form at www.sheldoniowa.com.

“We have the form on our website and it has been handed out to all preschools and through fourth grade at the schools,” Oostra said. “As the weather warms up, it makes you want to go outside and do it. It will be great to see all of the kids out there. After a crazy 2020, it will be fun seeing kids in the park having fun.”
