Sioux City says it's got a $400,000 grant lined up to help fund the Chris Larsen Park Riverfront Development project, but it needs some more help to secure it.

The Enhance Iowa Board says that grant is conditional upon the city raising another $16,000 in community donations. The city has until mid- November to raise that money.

They've added a donation button to the project'swebsite, to make collecting that cash easier. They say anyone who donates $1,000 will be recognized on a donor wall at the park.

Chris Larsen Park Riverfront Development, phase 1 broke ground in June 2020 and consists of the construction of a new public park on the former site of the Argosy Casino.

The project will include park spaces for small and large family/community gatherings, event spaces, active recreation areas for frisbee, flag football, summer camps, and enhancements to the recreational trail system.

The park construction starts just west of Virginia Street and will include three park shelters, restroom facilities, two basketball courts, a dog park for small and large dogs, active recreation lawn, gardens, native plantings, and play equipment for ages 2-12.

Completion of Phase 1 is anticipated for May 30, 2022.
