The First Avenue / CeMar Trail project is underway in Cedar Rapids.

Crews are working on the pedestrian underpass that will run underneath 1st Avenue.

As crews are working left hand turns are restricted at the 29th Street and 32nd Street intersections.

The underpass will be between 30th Street Drive and 31st Street NE (across from Raining Rose) and will follow an old railroad line.

The Chicago Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad line (known as the "Milwaukee Road") was abandoned in the 1980s. The city buried the bridge and paved over it. Crews are now removing the old bridge to make room for the CeMar trail extension and pedestrian underpass.

The trail extension this year will stretch from B Avenue at 29th Street to the Cedar Rapids/Marion line. The CeMar will eventually extend to Highway 100 and complete the connection between Cedar Rapids and Marion.
