Walkers, bikers and joggers can now use the new pedestrian bridgeover the Raccoon River that connects Gray's Lake to downtown Des Moines.
Hubbell Realty Co. officially opened the $4 million bridge to foot traffic on Tuesday at a ribbon cutting ceremony. The company celebrated by showing offthe bridge'slighting system that can change with the seasons or to celebrate major events in the Des Moines metro.
The 425-foot-long bridge connects pedestrians and cyclistssouth to the existing Kruidenier Trail that circles Gray's Lake. A public-access trail through Gray's Station spillsout onto to the MLKJr. Trailto the north of the river.
